The European Commission in association with the European External Action Service will organise the EU Arctic Forum, Indigenous Peoples’ Dialogue and Arctic Youth Dialogue in Brussels on 1-2 September 2026, with possible side events on 3 September.
A broad range of Arctic stakeholders representing governments, international organisations, civil society, industry, research, indigenous and local communities will feed into the discussions. Young and indigenous perspectives will feature prominently throughout the events.

On April 10, 1926, the airship Norge departed from Ciampino to undertake the "Amundsen-Ellsworth-Nobile Transpolar Flight." On April 10, 2026, the Umberto Nobile Museum in Lauro will commemorate that historic event by celebrating the centenary of the expedition with a series of activities, including a special commemorative postal cancellation, a digital exhibition, and a conference.
Several major institutions that share the project's themes have already confirmed their participation. These include the Norwegian Embassy, various Consulates, the Geographical Society, the Italian Air Force General Staff, the Fram Museum, the Polar Museum, and the association of the descendants of the Norge and Italia crews. The CNR (National Research Council) will be represented by a delegation led by the Director of the Institute of Polar Sciences, Giuliana Panieri, accompanied by Paolo Plini and Roberto Sparapani.

In 2027 Dirigibile Italia, managed by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) at the Ny-Ålesund Research Station (Svalbard), will mark three decades of continuous, multidisciplinary scientific activity. This is a milestone worth celebrating, launching a dedicated Special Issue, co-published in two prestigious Elsevier journals:
- Cold Regions Science and Technology Focusing on: Cryosphere, Ecological studies, Permafrost, Remote Sensing, and Technological development. (Lead Guest Editor: Andrea Spolaor)
- Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans Focusing on: Oceanography, Marine studies & biology, Atmosphere, and Pollutants. (Lead Guest Editor: Mauro Mazzola)
We warmly invite contributions from all research groups that have received support from or collaborated with "Dirigibile Italia" over the past decades. The goal is to synthesize 30 years of climate monitoring, environmental studies, and international Arctic cooperation. Submission Deadline: September 30, 2026
